Stay Sharp Weekly
The Stay Sharp Weekly newsletter equips Christian men to get sharp and stay sharp in every area of their lives.
Hey man,
What if you could snap your fingers and have two hours of extra time each day? I’m about to show you how. It really is so easy that you may not believe me, but read on.
DISTRACTION AT THE ROOT
Distraction is the root of many of the problems we face today as men. How we manage or mismanage our attention will determine our success in almost every metric that matters. I’ve heard it said that what gets your attention gets your affection. Truth. Period. Full stop.
There’s no workout program in the world that will help you get stronger and lose weight if all you’re eating is Twinkies and junk food.
It’s the same game for your attention. There’s no 30 minute devotional or prayer time framework that will help you in the long run, if you don’t solve what you do with your attention the other 16+ waking hours of your day.
Question: Who or what is getting your attention today?
GET TWO HOURS BACK... EVERY DAY!
If you feel frustrated that you don’t have enough time to do the things you know are important, to give attention to the people that are most important to you, set this one boundary and get back at least two hours a day.
Do not use your phone in your bedroom or in any bathroom.
That’s it.
Eliminate screens from these two places and you, my man will set the stage for big changes in your life.
Combating distraction is not fought hours at a time. It’s fought minutes at a time.
Two positive trade-offs:
- Take it out of your bedroom and have more time to be attentive to your wife in the bedroom where connection and intimacy happen.
Leaving it in your pocket or on your desk when you go to the bathroom, removes a whole lot of temptation to waste time on Facebook marketplace or slide down a dark hole of mid-day or late night temptation.
I’m just shooting straight with you. Calculate it.
How many hours have you wasted late at night THIS WEEK sitting in your bed beside your wife doom scrolling?
How many hours have you wasted going places you know you didn’t wanna go when you sat in the bathroom for 20-30 minutes.
Guys, let's get real. Doing your business on the toilet should not take more than five minutes max. If it does, then you need to eat some fiber bro!
The 7-Day Challenge
I hereby challenge you to draw a boundary line. No phone in your bedroom or any bathroom for 7 days.
This is doable for every one of us. If you know you need this, but don’t take this challenge, the real problem is not distraction, the real problem is addiction.
What are you missing out on anyway? Try to come up with 10 things that are actually valuable and productive uses of your time with your phone in the bedroom or the bathroom. You can’t.
But I will give you a free STAY SHARP hat if you go 7 days straight without pulling out your phone in the bedroom or bathroom and send me a list of 10 benefits you’ve experienced.
I dare you. I’ll be waiting to hear from you.
THIS WEEK’S TOP 3
- READ: Hebrews 6
- THINK: Consider this thought, "What gets your attention has your affection."
How is this true or untrue for you?
- ACT: Start your 7 day challenge right now. Shoot me a message if you're in with the date and time you started. I'll send you some encouragement along the way and check in. If you complete the challenge and send me 10 benefits you've observed, I'll send you WHETSTONE Stay Sharp hat.
BOOKING FOR FALL 2026: RETREATS, LEADERSHIP SUMMITS, AND CHURCHES
One of my favorite things in the world is to speak at conferences, retreats and churches.
If you lead a church, run a men's ministry, host a retreat, or know someone looking for a speaker this fall. I'd love to be in the conversation.
I'm speaking on three topics right now:
Filter the Noise - a practical framework for quieting the mental chaos and living with the authority and peace of Christ.
The Right Kind of Dangerous Man - calling men back to the strength, clarity, and God-given intentionality they were wired for.
Fathering in the Age of AI - equipping dads to thrive, not just survive, in the new technological frontier.
If any of these feel like a fit for your people, shoot me an email. Let's connect.
