Stay Sharp Weekly
The Stay Sharp Weekly newsletter equips Christian men to get sharp and stay sharp in every area of their lives.
The NFL Draft has turned into a major sporting event.
People used to read about it in the newspaper the next day, but now we can watch it in real time. You can even buy a ticket to be there live… as long as you show up in an obnoxious amount of your team’s gear.
The players anxiously wait for their names to be called and they get their chance to walk across that stage.
Will they be picked?
I think about Shedeur Sanders during last year’s draft. He was set to be one of the top picks, but he ended up being 144th over all. Ouch.
PICK ME!
I’ve struggled all my life with this script that runs on repeat in my head.
“I wish someone would pick me.”
“I wish someone to acknowledge my talent.”
“I wish someone would see me for who I really am.”
“Because, if they would, then everything would change.”
I know I’m not the only one. Have you heard these voices?
If you’ve heard a voice like this, you are not alone. This is a tactic that Satan has used to keep Godly men stuck since the beginning.
If this script sounds all too familiar, here is the straight truth for you today.
You have already been picked.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
John 15:16
God has chosen you to be on team Jesus. He has drafted you into his Kingdom.
Now you have a choice.
You can stay in your seat and keep moping about why you haven’t been chosen.
Or
Stand up. Acknowledge that you belong here. Walk across the stage and into the game.
Will you obey him?
If you’ve been chosen and you’re still sitting in your seat, hiding in the crowd, then you are living in sin. This is called the idolatry of self. You are choosing your assessment of yourself over God’s. I’ve been guilty of this sin more times than I’d like to admit.
The real problem is not whether or not you will be chosen, but what you will do now that you know he has chosen you.
THIS WEEK’S TOP 3
- READ: Matthew 18
- THINK: What are you waiting to be chosen for? Is it possible that you’re already on the team but unwilling to acknowledge it?
- ACT: What is one step you are afraid to take right now? You keep delaying, perfecting, rehearsing, procrastinating, but what would it look like to take one simple step toward it this week? NOW DO IT as quickly as possible.
