Stay Sharp Weekly
Man of God,
Few things will steal your sharpness like bitterness and resentment. They feel so justified and right. After all, people have been unjust, unfair, unkind, and/or hateful to us or to those we love.
As men, when we get hurt, we often build walls. If love and trust have bitten us, then we just won’t deeply love or trust anyone. That will fix everything, right?
How’s that working out for you? If you think it is, let me tell you… it’s not. It’s not working for you or anyone else you care about.
The entanglement of bitterness and resentment is deep and twisted. I understand that one email won’t solve your problem, but I can point you to the starting line.
How long has it been since you’ve taken time to look at the cross?
It’s not just a spiritual icon. It is the place where God, in the face of the deepest betrayal and unjust punishment, chose mercy over judgment, grace over wrath.
I know it doesn’t make sense to forgive the person who hurt you, much less to love them and pray for them. Those things seem so far away. But consider Jesus on the cross… God in the flesh, taking on all the unfairness so you and I, His betrayers, could go scot-free.
Why?
Because he loved.
If you are struggling with unforgiveness today, don’t do anything to fix your situation until you have spent time at the cross.
1 Corinthians 1:18
For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
If you will wait there, he will speak to you. He will heal you.
