Hey, man of God,
September was “Dangerous Man Month,” but the journey isn’t over. We still have one final Domain of Danger to cover: VISION.
VISION is not about having the map or knowing the future. Vision, in the context of becoming the right kind of dangerous man, is first about who we are becoming, then about where we are going.
One of the best things about being Jesus’s disciple is this. We don’t have to create a vision of the men we are becoming from scratch. It has been given to us in fine detail.
Jesus is the vision. His life, his character, his words, his actions, his practices… Him.
While the rest of the world frantically jumps from train to train striving for some utopic future, we fix our eyes on Jesus knowing that he is the author and perfecter of our faith.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:1-2
Look to Jesus! Not only do we find vision for who God wants us to be, but Jesus also gives us vision for an everlasting Kingdom that will not fade away like the rest of the world.
Yes, you should be a visionary man.
- Define a clear picture of your kids and grandkids growing old and boldly following Christ.
- See a vision for your marriage to shine God’s love everywhere you go.
- Paint a picture of your company being a financial engine that makes an impact in your community and the world.
- Build. Make. Work. Create. Take ground. Do all these things.
But First...
Be like Isaiah and “set your face like flint” on Jesus. Lean into the Lord and he will let nothing pull you away from the vision he has for your life.
The world needs more bold and dangerous men who have…
- A redeemed history that points people to Jesus,
- Clear desires that drive them,
- A Christ-centered identity that roots them, and
- A Kingdom vision that propels them.
Do you want to be this kind of man? I sure do.
Let’s spur one another on toward this end and storm the gates of hell together!
THIS WEEK’S TOP 3
- READ: Hebrews 11
- THINK: If someone asked you what your vision is for your life, could you clearly articulate it?
- ACT: Invest 10 minutes to contemplate this question. “What do I see in Jesus that I want in greater measure in my life?” Write your answers and ask God to increase these things in you.
