Stay Sharp Weekly
Earlier this week at a night of worship and prayer at our church, I heard something that stopped me in my tracksāespecially for men like us who are always chasing growth and greater impact.
The pastor said:
āMy calling is not connected to my gifting. It is connected to my obedience.ā
Think about that.
Yes, your gifting is from God. And yes, He will use it. But your gifting is not the root of your calling.
Obedience is.
We get so fixated on our gifts that we miss simple obedience.
- We say no because we feel insecure.
- We say no because it wonāt be appreciated.
- We say no because we canāt see the ROI.
- We say no because we donāt feel ready.
- We say no because we might look foolish.
Iāve used every one of those excuses. You probably have too.
But God isnāt calling us to selective, feeling-based yeses. Heās calling us to faith-filled, full-send obedience.
It wonāt always make sense. He rarely shows the whole picture. But He knows what Heās doing.
Where have you hesitated because the opportunity didnāt perfectly align with your idea of your ācallingā?
Letās be men like Samuel: āSpeak, Lord, for your servant is listening.ā
Like Isaiah: āHere I am. Send me.ā
Come on, bro. That hits me. How about you?

3. ACT: Take a 10-minute walk. Ask God to reveal how you have disobeyed him. Listen. Write down what he reveals. Confess your sin and ask him for forgiveness. Then take one step toward obedience as fast as you possibly can.
