Stay Sharp Weekly
Earlier this week at a night of worship and prayer at our church, I heard something that stopped me in my tracksâespecially for men like us who are always chasing growth and greater impact.
The pastor said:
âMy calling is not connected to my gifting. It is connected to my obedience.â
Think about that.
Yes, your gifting is from God. And yes, He will use it. But your gifting is not the root of your calling.
Obedience is.
We get so fixated on our gifts that we miss simple obedience.
- We say no because we feel insecure.
- We say no because it wonât be appreciated.
- We say no because we canât see the ROI.
- We say no because we donât feel ready.
- We say no because we might look foolish.
Iâve used every one of those excuses. You probably have too.
But God isnât calling us to selective, feeling-based yeses. Heâs calling us to faith-filled, full-send obedience.
It wonât always make sense. He rarely shows the whole picture. But He knows what Heâs doing.
Where have you hesitated because the opportunity didnât perfectly align with your idea of your âcallingâ?
Letâs be men like Samuel: âSpeak, Lord, for your servant is listening.â
Like Isaiah: âHere I am. Send me.â
Come on, bro. That hits me. How about you?

THINK: âThe believing man does not claim to understand. He falls to his knees and whispers, âGod.âââ¨-A.W. Tozer - The Pursuit of God
3. ACT: Take a 10-minute walk. Ask God to reveal how you have disobeyed him. Listen. Write down what he reveals. Confess your sin and ask him for forgiveness. Then take one step toward obedience as fast as you possibly can.
