Stay Sharp Weekly
*I'm experimenting with an audio version of the newsletter. I recorded this week's Stay Sharp. Take a listen. Give me a shout and let me know if an audio/podcast version is interesting or helpful to you.
What's up, my man?!?
I’m here to help you get sharp and stay sharp in your walk with God, your relationships with others and your leadership in the Kingdom. How do you do this? There are a lot of answers to that question, but the place to start is by giving God your First 30.
What you do with the first thirty minutes of your morning determines your focus and perspective for the rest of your day. Don’t let these critical minutes be hijacked by addictive technology and to-do lists.
Many of us have developed some bad habits. Our morning routines are unstructured and often stressful. Make no mistake, unintentional mornings sabotage your ability to focus on the things that have eternal significance throughout the day.
When we roll over and check our social media, texts, news, weather or email first thing in the morning, we are setting ourselves up to “eat the bread of anxious toil” (Psalm 127:2).
How do we break these fruitless habits? The solution is simpler than you think.
Here are my “before-tech” habits.
- Pray Psalm 23
- Read one chapter in the Bible
- Read three pages in a book
- Pray for two people
- Write for two minutes
Most days, these can be done in less than 15 minutes.
What do your mornings look like? Are your habits fueling dependence on God and leading you to purpose and joy or are they fueling dependence on self and leading you to anxious toil?
This Week's TOP 3
1. READ: Proverbs 16
2. THINK: “We’ve got dust on our Bibles, brand new iPhones, and wonder why we feel this way”
Take a listen: Josiah Queen - “Dusty Bibles”
3. ACT: Commit to 3-5 habits you will commit to before you pick up your phone or open your laptop every morning.
Tip #1: Start tomorrow.
Tip #2: Start stupid-small. For example: Read 1 verse, Pray for your wife, Be silent for 1 minute.
Take courage,
Aubrey
