Stay Sharp Weekly
Hey, man of God,
The celebration of Advent has begun as Christians around the world prepare their hearts and lives for Christmas. The first week is centered on Hope.
Hope is often mistaken for a “girly” word. One relegated to women’s hoodies and coffee mugs. But hope is for everyone, especially for men like you and me.
One of the ways we feel the importance of hope is by feeling its absence. Proverbs says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” (Proverbs 13:12) Hopelessness is a major issue among men. We can become weary of fighting or waiting for change, a breakthrough, or an opportunity.
Be honest: does your hope feel like it’s creeping toward empty for something in your life?
- A restored marriage
- A job change
- A renewal of the fire you once had for God
- A health turnaround
- An end to anxiety or addiction
If so, hear these words from Psalm 42:5 and speak them over your life.
“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” (NIV)
THIS WEEK’S TOP 3
-
READ: Matthew 1 - We begin a journey through the gospel of Matthew this week. I'm excited for what's ahead! Read it once or twice this week and let it soak into your heart and mind.
-
THINK: Who are the people who have exemplified resilient and unwavering hope in your life? For you? For difficult situations?
-
ACT: Take 5 minutes… Seriously… Just 5 minutes… right now… You can blow 5 minutes on social media in a blink… stop saying, “I don’t have time.” That’s bull-crap! What we make time for reveals our true priorities.
Love you bro! :)
Now, examine your life, where do you feel hopelessness creeping in right now? Write down your answer(s). Now pray Psalm 42:5 over them. Remember that Jesus came to bring hope to this specific situation. Ask him to refill your hope this week.
