Hey man,

If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider fasting. It is a spiritual discipline we see God’s people practice throughout scripture.
It doesn’t have to be intimidating. Biblical fasting is simply abstaining from food for a given period of time to hear from God, dedicate our lives to him, and draw near to Him.
Some of you have done intermittent fasting for health reasons. That’s great! I actually do it most days, but Biblical fasting isn’t the same. It is surrendering the appetite of our bodily hunger so that we can become more attuned and connected to God and our need for his life-sustaining power. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
Here’s a simple challenge.
Fast for one day.
- When you would normally eat food, spend time in worship, prayer and/or silence.
- Bring a specific need or desire before the Lord.
- Keep a journal throughout the day and write prayers, scriptures, and insights from the Lord.
- Tell a maximum of one person.
Think less about what results you will get and more about drawing near to God with open hands and an open heart.

3. ACT: Take the challenge to fast one day in the next week. If one day is too much, do three days in a row during lunch or try two days of fasting breakfast and lunch.
