Hey man of God,
The way you treat your body, by what you put in it and how you use or misuse it, has a direct effect on your walk with the Lord. A healthy body helps you to be ready to respond to whatever God asks of you. It contributes to a clear mind in the present and a more hopeful view of the future.
An unhealthy body is often symptomatic of deeper spiritual and identity issues that need to be addressed.
I am not saying that physical health makes you more loved or valuable in God’s sight. I am saying that caring for the body God has given you is a way to worship God, love others, and care for yourself.
You’re not a teenager anymore.
You don’t have the same metabolism you once had. This is the age when heart disease is the number one killer of guys like us. In most cases, heart disease is primarily caused by choices we make over decades that can be avoided.
Here are two rules of life that can help you begin to sharpen your physical life:
- Adopt a lifestyle of movement - Look for opportunities to move more throughout your day. Walk around your office. Take the stairs. Park in the back of the parking lot. Pick up your children more often. Get outside with them. Get down on the floor with them. Mow your yard. Do 10 pushups every day.
- Prefer fewer ingredients - Our food supply is packed with addictive and unhealthy ingredients that have little to no nutritional value. One way to combat this is to buy and eat foods with fewer ingredients, preferably ones you can pronounce. You will be surprised how helpful this is. It’s easier to eat healthy food when the junk isn’t in your pantry.
