Stay Sharp Weekly
The Stay Sharp Weekly newsletter equips Christian men to get sharp and stay sharp in every area of their lives.
Hey there,
I rode with an Uber driver yesterday in his Toyota Highlander. Guess how many miles it had on it.
250,000? 300,000? 400,000?
Nope.
687,000.
"What? No way!" That’s exactly what I said, but he wasn’t joking.
After three transmissions and over 34,000 Uber rides, he’s still driving the same vehicle with the original engine. Surprisingly, it was still in great shape, inside and out.
When I asked him why he hadn’t bought something newer, he said, “She hasn’t let me down, so I’m not going to let her go.”
This guy was loyal to his car.
The State of Your Loyalty
In a culture obsessed with the new and the latest of everything, one of the casualties is true loyalty. We have taken the bait that newer is better, and we buy it every day, even as the costs keep rising. We may call it brand loyalty, but it's not true loyalty. It seeps down deeper than consumerism.
Our lack of authentic loyalty finds its way into our relationships. If we’re not watchful, we can get infected with the epidemic of discontentment that surrounds us.
What is the state of your loyalty to the most important people in your life?
- Someone reading this is contemplating ending your marriage, but you need to stay loyal. A new woman isn’t going to fix your problem because at least half of the problem in your marriage is you. And guess what. You take that problem with you wherever you go.
Loyalty keeps you and leads you through the hard work that brings the refining and maturity you truly need.
- Someone reading this is considering ditching your old business partner because you have a shiny new opportunity that you “can’t turn down.”
Loyalty keeps you from being rash and gives time for wisdom to weigh in.
Let’s be men of God who elevate loyalty again as a virtue, especially when it comes to our loyalty to Christ and those who matter most.
This Week's TOP 3
- READ: Proverbs 19
- THINK: Do you think the Uber driver made the right decision to keep spending money on his car? What would you have done? Hit reply and share you're opinion. I'm genuinely curious.
- ACT: Take five minutes to write down the names of the people who have shown you loyalty over the last decade. Then, send them a text and thank them for sticking by your side.
Stay sharp,
Aubrey
P.S. If you made it to the bottom... The weekly Top 3 are not random busy work. These are the small things intended to help you put feet to your faith and live out God’s word. You don’t have to do all of these actions I suggest here, but if you have been reading this for a while and haven’t tried any of them, then we may have a problem. You’re probably waiting around for some day when you will instantly become a different, better, more Godly man than you were before. But that’s not the way it works. This life with Jesus is nothing more than cultural religion if you don’t put action to your intentions. It’s a daily walk with him. It’s a slow but beautiful process of transformation and God is here for it. I am here for it. Are you?
If you're struggling to put action to your intention, schedule a 90 Minute Sharpening Session with me and let me show you three simple ways to get out of this cycle and back to living on fire for Christ.
