Stay Sharp Weekly
The Stay Sharp Weekly newsletter equips Christian men to get sharp and stay sharp in every area of their lives.
Hey man of God,
It’s time to start elevating your physical health on your priority list.
Your health is not just a physical issue. It is spiritual.
Remember that Jesus came, God inhabiting an actual body of flesh and bone.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
Like him, you are body and spirit integrated into one being. So, when you are not healthy physically, it affects every area of your life.
Spending time waiting on the Lord, thinking clearly, being emotionally engaged and steady, making good decisions, and being present with your family have a direct connection to how you feel in your body.
There are a lot of reasons why our bodies begin to talk to us in mid-life and many stem from our own choices and habits. Take the two big killers, cardiovascular disease and cancer, more than half of the cases involve “modifiable factors.” Meaning, they are the effect of our choices, not just our genes.
My man, we can talk all day long about being a better husband, father, man of God, business leader, etc., but, in order for you to do these things, you need to be… ALIVE.
#1 Alive in the sense that you are not dead. But also #2 Alive in the sense that you are able to actually live your life and thrive.
How are you doing physically?
I encourage you with this. When you assess your health, don’t focus on the distance between where you are and those six-pack abs you dream about.
Instead, assess your trajectory.
Are you on a course and moving in the direction of better health? Or are you drifting further down the dangerous path of chronic disease and pain?
If you’re on the right path, celebrate that you’re headed in the right direction and take one more step today. Keep your commitments to yourself one day at a time.
If you’re not on the right path, today is your day to course correct.
Your 40s are a decade of turning. What you do in this decade will determine the health trajectory of the rest of your life. You can’t fix it all today, but you can take one step in the direction of long-term health.
THIS WEEK’S TOP 3
- READ: Matthew 26
- THINK: How can you love the Lord with all your strength this week?

- ACT: Here is a great way to get out from behind your desk or up from your chair. Throughout your work week, ask, “Can this be done outside?” If it can, get up for a few minutes and go outside. Eat lunch. Take a call. Check email on your laptop. Have a conversation with a co-worker. Break out of your rut. Just a small action like this can be a significant step toward a healthier mind, body and soul.
BOOKING FOR FALL 2026: RETREATS, LEADERSHIP SUMMITS, AND CHURCHES
One of my favorite things in the world is to speak at conferences, retreats and churches.
If you lead a church, run a men's ministry, host a retreat, or know someone looking for a speaker this fall. I'd love to be in the conversation.
I'm speaking on three topics right now:
Filter the Noise - a practical framework for quieting the mental chaos and living with the authority and peace of Christ.
The Right Kind of Dangerous Man - calling men back to the strength, clarity, and God-given intentionality they were wired for.
Fathering in the Age of AI - equipping dads to thrive, not just survive, in the new technological frontier.
If any of these feel like a fit for your people, shoot me an email. Let's connect.
